Reviews

Culinaire June 2021 issue

"Yes, this is the current vintage of this sauvignon blanc, and yes, it’s still a tightly wound and fresh bottle. Lemongrass, honey, and hazelnuts, lead off the nose with good support from aging sur lie for 10 months and plenty of barrel aging. In the end, it’s a crisp and balanced sauvignon blanc that is more than a few steps from ordinary."

"You might have expected the wine to show some signs of tiring, but the bright straw-green hue tells otherwise, and nothing after that changes the message much -  the finish does drop ever so slightly, taking away from the complexity of the well-balanced palate." — James Halliday

"This winery is unusual for the maturity of its releases, especially rare in sauvignon blanc. Remarkably young light-yellow hue; nutty, toasty bouquet reflecting oak fermentation. Nougat and marzipan nuances also. The palate is fresh and taut, again young for its age." — Huon Hooke

Featured in Wine Selectors Winemakers Series Six Pack April 2021

"In the glass: Incredibly youthful pale gold with green freshness. On the nose: Vanilla and sweet yellow fruits. On the palate: Juicy with honeyed richness, guava, passionfruit and nectarine, smokey barrel ferment characters and cashew-like mouthfeel. Youthful, fresh, bright and long."

Tasting Notes

Appearance: A clear vibrant straw green.

Nose: Intense with fresh sweet aromas.

Palate: Lovely balance, crisp with racy acidity. Fresh, delicious and mouthwatering.  Medium intensity with good concentration and finish.

Dear UMAMU family,

It is a real privilege to offer you our Margaret River Sauvignon Blanc.

My mother's favourite wine (until UMAMU Estate of course!) was a Pavillon Blanc from Chateau Margaux in Bordeaux. So when we started making our own wine in the Margaret River, Western Australia, we just had to produce our own Sauvignon Blanc to emulate it.

As winemakers, we are passionate about preserving memories, so I got my mum to write 'Blanc' on the front label. I also had Dad write 'For Ann' on the back. After Mum 'left for her next journey' I wanted to do something special with the 2011 I submitted the 2011 Sauvignon Blanc to Qantas and was thrilled when it was served on Qantas International First Class and got to fly!

This 2013 Margaret River Sauvignon Blanc is vibrant, fresh, racy and mouthwatering with a mere 12% alcohol. Matured in French barrels for 10 months before bottling.

Cheers!
