‘The Umamu Estate vineyard was planted in 1978 with a healthy ecosystem a focus. Shiraz ripens well on this temperate site spawning a bold red with dark plum and blackberry flavours, sweet licorice, mocha spices and a final squeeze of sinewy tannins’ - Qantas
Appearance: A plum purple hue.
Nose: Medium intensity and warm with spice coming through.
Palate: Medium body with a variety of spices, fine grained tannins with good length.
Good winter rainfall and below average falls during the growing season with even and mild ripening conditions.
This vintage is a blend from five different vineyard blocks of Shiraz.
The berries were sent whole to a combination of open and closed static fermentation tanks. The ferments were pressed off just before dryness; hence, the wine completed its primary fermentation in the oak barrels, adding some spiciness. The wine was then matured for 10 months in about one third new barrels, mainly from the Allier and Vosges forests.
