We like to release wines when they are ready after they have had time to develop. The other thing we like or rather thrive on are vertical tastings. We love being able to taste the difference in the vintages.
Join Col at the vineyard to taste through our current release 2016 and two from our museum 2014 and 2008.
95 points James Halliday "Gleaming green-gold; combines richness and complexity with (unexpected) elegance and freshness, the conflicting streams finding the way to resolve their differences through an overpass of texture."
93 points Ray Jordan '"he chardonnays from UMAMU have quite a strong house style. It's based on quality fruit given a decent working over in the winery. This is a combination of one fruit and struck match, with butterscotch and grapefruit complexity. Extends to a long, savoury finish. Impressive wine."
96 pointsJames Halliday "A deceptive wine-the first reaction is that it is simply immaculately balanced and poised, but then the power and the zesty citrus pith and aftertaste arrive. The white peach of the mid-palate remains untarnished, as does the overall integrity of the wine."
92 points Huon Hooke "Medium to full yellow colour, restrained for its age, and the bouquet offers toasted hazelnut, butter and honey, in tandem with a rich, full-bodied palate. Plenty of alcohol weight, but lively acidity keeps that full-throated richness dancing."
Qantas Business Class "UMAMU Estate is one of Margaret River's quietest achievers; this wine shows yellow peach and ripe pineapple flavours with sweetly spiced oak and a touch of buttery richness. Soft and creamy with a final flourish of lemon acidity."
93 points Ray Jordan "An impressive chardonnay here. Bouquet shows that lovely mix of morning brioche and citrus with a subtle fusion of roasted nuts. The palate is seamlessly textured and multi-layered. Balanced oak and fruit with a preciseand long finish. Crisp minerality sustains it."
