Chinese New Year Wine Dinner to Usher in the Fire Horse

A cosy wine dinner at Shun Hin Chinese Restaurant Perth to usher in Chinese New Year.

The restaurant was heaving. So much energy. So much to soak up.

Dinner began unexpectedly with pigeon — crisp and beautifully done, reminiscent of Hong Kong. Paired with Ann’s Cabernet Sauvignon 2019, whose resolved tannins met the savoury richness effortlessly.

Once everyone arrived, Yee Sang was tossed high — inviting abundance into the Year of the Horse.

From there, the dishes came as fast as a galloping horse.  What excited me most was the versatility.

Sparkling MacAnn 2019 lifted everything from salad to scallop to lobster noodles.

SBS19 has truly come into its own — delicate yet expressive.

MacAnn Cabernet 2019 found harmony with lute duck, aubergine with salted fish, and garlic shoots.

It became less about direct one to one pairing — and more about discovery. Multi-pairing. Seeing how wines reveal different facets with each dish.

I love the festive season - I’m grateful for happy tummies, shared laughter, and tables well shared.

Thank you to UMAMU family for their support.

Wishing everyone abundance and harmony in the year ahead. 🧧🍷
