UMAMU Estate 2019 Chardonnay Featured in Young Gun of Wine’s Deep Dive into Margaret River Chardonnay

UMAMU Estate is delighted to share that our 2019 Chardonnay was featured in Young Gun of Wine’s recent “Deep Dive into Margaret River Chardonnay”.

The Deep Dive was a blind-tasting editorial that brought together a panel of respected wine professionals to explore the region’s most compelling expressions of this classic varietal.

The tasting panel comprised of Meg Brodtmann MW, Madeleine Horrigan, Tom Robertson, Cyndal Petty, Tully Mauritzen, and Blake Meyer. They evaluated dozens of wines blind, each selecting their top six.

UMAMU’s 2019 Chardonnay was chosen as a "top six" wine by both Madeleine Horrigan, wine writer and MW student, and Tom Robertson, General Manager of Alimentaria.

Horrigan described the wine as “a wine that captures your attention from the first sniff, with tantalising notes of tangy lime, zippy green apple, and beautifully ripe apricots… layered hints of sour cream and oatcake create an intriguing Key lime pie profile.”

She praised its “zesty acidity that plays beautifully with those savoury, lactic notes.”

Robertson agreed, noting “a wonderful savoury nature to this wine driven by seaside herbs, citrus, and floral notes… a great lighter-framed expression, bristling with freshness and a savoury driving force that wraps around the spice and stone fruits on the palate.”

Charmaine, principal of UMAMU Estate said:

“We’re thrilled to see our 2019 Chardonnay recognised by such a respected panel. Our focus has always been on balance, elegance, and allowing the fruit to speak for itself – and it’s wonderful to see that resonate with experts who tasted blind.”

UMAMU’s 2019 Chardonnay has also received 95 points from both James Halliday (Erin Larkin) and Huon Hooke, confirming its place among the region’s standout wines.
