Feature in the Weekend Australian by Nick Ryan was a wonderful way to start the year. Nick went on to feature our Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 in his museum masterclass at Pair’d, which is a happy ending to the year.

Our 2019 Chardonnay featured in Young Gun of Wine’s Deep Dive into Margaret River Chardonnay.
UMAMU Estate Three Silver medals for our SSB05, SSB08, SSB16 from the Endeavour Group Margaret River Wine Show and the Australian Small Winemakers Show.
The Vintage Journal awarded 95 points to Cab Sauv 18, 92 to Cab Sauv 13, 93 to Chardonnay 2006 and 91 to Chardonnay 2019.
Connecting with you
The Good Food Wine Shows in Melbourne, Sydney, Perth and Brisbane were fantastic to connect with new and existing UMAMU family.
UMAMU Estate also had our first radio interview at love972 Kenneth and Edward with Joe, who looks after UMAMU in Singapore. We also enjoyed a wine dinner at the Recreational Club Singapore. Lots of yum seng (cheersing). Delicious pairing of fish and red wine. I remembered that my parents used to get us all to sign the menu and I got some of the guests to do the same.

Food wine pairing
We had a wonderful 'bucket list' time cooking pumpkin soup in the vineyard after harvesting all night. And Carissa, whom I met at Good Food Wine Show Perth, kindly shared her recipe for lemongrass pork and we enjoyed discovering which UMAMU Estate wines pair with the dishes.
Our inaugural Halloween Wine Dinner in collaboration with Tristian’s Cheeky’s Wine Bar Sydney was a real hit! We served three pizzas inspired by Manu & Clarissa Feildel, and paired with three UMAMU Estate wines.
One of the bonus from spending much time on a plane travelling to the various events is getting to try restaurants. Here are my favourite dishes at restaurants I have eaten this year with some virtual and real wine pairings:
- Seafood Paella at MoVida Aqui Melbourne – I would pair with our Chardonnay 2019 or Cabernet Franc 2016.
- Curried Pumpkin gluten free vegan Pizza at Cheeky’s Pizza Bar Sydney paired with SSB05.
- Mud crab with rice flat noodles at Ho Jiak Town Hall in Sydney to pair with any wine.
- Aubergine crispy at Lee Hoo Fook at the Porterhouse Sydney paired with Chardonnay 2019.
- Sri Lankan crab with ginger and spring onion at Peach Blossom Pary Royal Marina Bay Singapore paired with SSB05. This Chinese restaurant has such delicate and delicious dishes. Always a treat to be able to dine there.
- Baked Fillet of Sea Perch with Minced Garlic at the Singapore Recreational Club wine dinner paired with our Shiraz 2019
- Manila clams in wagyu and fioretta with macadamia satay sauce at Fysh by Josh Niland in Singapore, I would pair with our MacAnn Cabernets 2019. Any of you been to Saint Peter in Sydney? It is on my next list.
- Char Koay Teow in Penang, my favourite stall in Tanjong Bungah Ah Suan paired with SSB05.
